Your role and responsibilities
As Head of External & Digital Communications for ABB’s Marine & Ports global division, you will be responsible for the development of external and digital communications with the goal of maintaining and enhancing our position as a leading supplier of electrification, automation and digital solutions for the maritime industry. You collaborate closely with a team of marketing & communications professionals in realizing plans supporting the business. In this role, you are responsible for establishing thought leadership and enhancing brand positioning for ABB in the maritime industry, through external and digital communications. You support the implementation of the Division and its Business Lines’ marketing & communications activities as leader of the External & Digital Communications team. As line manager you guide and coach the team, focusing on team efficiency and high work wellbeing. You manage and develop the team of specialists in support of business needs. The work model for this role is hybrid. #LI-hybrid This position is available in our largest locations: Helsinki, Oslo, Västerås, Miramar, Houston, Singapore, Genoa and Rotterdam. You are mainly accountable for: • Managing Thought Leadership Initiatives: Developing and implementing a content strategy positioning ABB as a maritime industry leader. Driving expert and executive participation through campaigns and training programs, while measuring business impact. • Managing Media Relations & Executive Communications: Creating and executing media campaigns, press releases, and influencer outreach to enhance brand visibility. Conducting media pitching, managing press events, and supporting executive and incident communications to uphold ABB’s reputation. • Executing Digital Marketing Strategy: Defining and executing the digital roadmap aligned with business plans and launches. Ensuring effective SEO, UX/UI optimization, lead generation (via Pardot), and targeted advertising (e.g., social media, ABM, retargeting) to boost traffic and engagement. • Overseeing Event Strategy & Execution: Managing the end-to-end process for events, from selection to planning and execution. Ensuring events contribute measurable business value and lead Division visibility. • Strategic Planning, Team Development & Performance Monitoring: Providing guidance and feedback to support team wellbeing and performance. Aligning activities with internal stakeholders and manage budgets, while continuously measuring and optimizing marketing and communications effectiveness. Exploring innovative communication methods and ensure alignment with ABB Group and Process Automation functions.
Qualifications for the role
- 10-15 years’ professional work experience in marketing and communications roles in an inter-national business environment.
- Leadership experience either through being a line manager, project manager or leading role in a marketing or media agency.
- Vision and skill set to develop an effective thought leadership strategy and high-quality, SEO-optimized content to position ABB as a leader in maritime.
- Skills to develop a comprehensive external communications strategy that includes media relations, influencer outreach, strategic events and social media engagement. Ability to guide team on finding new effective ways to reach the market.
- Team player and collaborative way of working.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
- Marine & Ports industry knowledge is beneficial but not a requirement.
