Role overview
As Investment Process Owner, you will ensure that investment planning, prioritisation, decision-making, monitoring and reporting form a consistent and transparent end-to-end process. You will have the opportunity to influence the management of an annual investment portfolio of approximately EUR 200–300 million and contribute to the efficient use of capital.
This is an influential Group-level expert role with broad opportunities to shape investment management practices across VR Group.
Purpose of the role
You will act as the owner of the investment process and be responsible for continuously developing the related processes, operating models, guidelines, responsibilities, tools and systems.
You will support the business and management in investment planning and decision-making. The role combines financial analysis, investment performance monitoring, and practical process and systems development.
Key responsibilities
- Own and develop VR Group’s investment management model and end-to-end investment process.
- Ensure that investment planning and prioritisation are aligned with VR Group’s strategy, financial targets and capital allocation principles.
- Develop investment planning, forecasting, budgeting, prioritisation and reporting.
- Support management in evaluating investment alternatives and developing a balanced Group-level investment portfolio.
- Produce analyses of investment profitability, risks, strategic relevance and capital efficiency.
- Monitor investment performance against approved business cases, budgets and targets.
- Develop investment-related metrics, reporting and analytical models.
- Develop finance and accounting practices for assets under construction, commissioning, capitalisation and depreciation.
- Lead development projects related to investments and other finance processes.
- Promote process standardisation, digitalisation and continuous improvement.
- Build common investment management practices and strengthen investment capabilities across the Group.
You will work closely with business units, finance teams, investment projects and systems specialists across the Group.
What will help you succeed
You have strong financial and analytical capabilities and can combine strategic thinking with practical development. You are able to lead broad initiatives, influence across organisational boundaries and drive change forward with determination.
We expect you to have:
- A relevant university degree, for example in accounting, finance, industrial engineering and management, or a related field.
- More than five years of experience in demanding finance roles.
- Experience in investment processes, investment planning, monitoring or analysis.
- Experience in supporting strategic decision-making and working with senior business and finance stakeholders.
- The ability to evaluate investments from financial, strategic, operational and risk perspectives.
- Good knowledge of IFRS, particularly in relation to investments, fixed assets and depreciation.
- A good understanding of finance systems and experience with ERP, EPM, BI or reporting solutions.
- Strong project management, communication and influencing skills.
- An analytical, systematic and independent approach to work.
- The confidence and sound judgement to take ownership of complex Group-level topics and move them forward in a structured manner.
- Fluency in Finnish and English. Swedish language skills are considered an advantage.
- You will make a meaningful difference to the daily lives and journeys of hundreds of thousands of people, as well as to the transportation of thousands of tonnes of freight.
- You will work alongside 9,500 professionals across Finland and Sweden.
- We offer a wide range of training and learning opportunities, diverse career paths, and comprehensive employee benefits for sports, culture and meals.
- We support both business and leisure travel by offering a variety of travel and recreational opportunities at employee rates in Finland and abroad.
- You will have access to comprehensive occupational health services that support your overall wellbeing, as well as modern tools and equipment.
Our work is centred around our customers, growth and employee wellbeing. Our open feedback culture supports continuous development, learning and shared success. Together, we are on a meaningful journey. You are an important part of that journey, exactly as you are. Together, we are building a better tomorrow.
